The people behind the work

Anand Bhagwat, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Oncology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine.

In high school he worked in Joe Noel’s lab at the Salk Institute. As an undergrad, he worked in Kathy High’s lab at CHOP under the tutelage of Hojun Li. He earned his PhD from Stony Brook University while training in Chris Vakoc’s lab, and then did fellowship research in Saar Gill’s lab at Penn.

He is a member of the Center for Cellular Immunotherapies at Penn and the Center for Childhood Cancer Research at CHOP. His work has been recognized by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (2023), he was an ASH-EHA TRTH Scholar (2024), and was selected for a Burroughs Wellcome Fund career award (2025).
